Suri Cruise - four going on 40?

Now Suri Cruise has been spotted reading Vanity Fair and sipping a Starbucks drink. Whatever next?

Anyone who fears for the children of celebrities may be disheartened to see this week's pictures of Suri Cruise, aged four, spotted in Vancouver sipping a Starbucks drink and leafing through a copy of Vanity Fair. "She held her frothy drink in both hands as she made her way from the counter . . . she ensured to blow her drink to cool it down before taking a sip," wrote the Daily Mail, the level of detail in its report clearly invaluable to any reader who has never seen someone buying a cup of coffee.

Lost in Showbiz doesn't wish to suggest that Suri (pictured above with mother Katie Holmes) is growing up too fast but nevertheless: Starbucks? Vanity Fair? What's she going to do next? Weigh up the benefits of a self-invested personal pension? Get a Wyevale garden centre account card? Start complaining about her bad knees?

Oscars 2011: Where to spot a celebrity in LA

If your ticket to the Oscars got lost in the post, don't despair. Our experts know just where to go to bump in to the hottest celebs. Here are their top tips

Perez Hilton

Celebrity blogger at perezhilton.com

Very Public Restaurants!
No, celebrities don't actually eat. But they do LOVE having their picture taken. A lot! So celebs will flock to those restaurants where the paparazzi are usually swarming. It's a safe bet that you can run into a star at The Ivy (113 N Robertson Blvd; +1 310 274 8303), Toast (8221 West 3rd Street; +1 323 655 5018, toastbakerycafe.net) or Joan's On 3rd (8350 West Third Street; +1 323 655 2285, joansonthird.com). Those are the top three "LOOK AT ME" restaurants, but they're not even the best! My favourite eatery in Los Angeles is Jos Andrs's The Bazaar (465 South La Cienega Blvd; +1 310 246 5555, thebazaar.com), which specialises in tapas done with a molecular-gastronomy twist.

High-End Retail!
It used to be Rodeo Drive. Then it was Robertson Boulevard. Now your best bet for locking eyes on serious star wattage is to go to The Grove (189 The Grove Drive; +1 323 900 8080, thegrovela.com). A mega outdoor mall, it is THE ultimate celebrity shopping destination. The paparazzi are there every day, but you likely won't notice them because they're very crafty. However, as soon as you see them whip out their big lenses, you'll know a celeb is in the distance. That happens several times a day! So, shop, order a coffee, walk around and enjoy your star sighting!

The Park!
You may have heard of Runyon Canyon (Franklin and Fuller avenues) or seen pictures of such celebs as Robbie Williams and Jake Gyllenhaal there, but my best kept secret on where to spot celebs if you visit Los Angeles is ... Coldwater Canyon Park! (12601 N Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills; tinyurl.com/cctzee). Your chances of celeb spotting are heightened because the stars tend to go only on the weekends. And the ones that go the most are stars with kids. Heidi Klum, Gwen Stefani and Jessica Alba have all been seen there recently with their children.

The Cinema!
Believe it or not, celebrities really are just like us. They love going to the movies too. They just do it celebrity-style! Meaning, in Los Angeles, there is one movie theatre where all the celebs go regularly. You can buy your tickets online, you can reserve your seats ahead of time, and the prices are really expensive! It's called Arclight Hollywood (6360 W Sunset Blvd; +1 323 464 1478, arclightcinemas.com), and you'll often see actors sneaking into their own movies!

The Gym!
Celebrity trainers are EXPENSIVE! So unless they're A-listers, most celebs will "slum" it with us common folks. The top two places to have an encounter with a star while working out are Equinox (8590 Sunset Blvd; equinox.com), where I have personally run in to True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard naked in the locker room (yes!!!), and Barry's Bootcamp (1106 N La Cienega Blvd; barrysbootcamp.com). Bootcamps are all the rage now in LA, and Mel B and reality TV star Kim Kardashian have been known to frequent Barry's.

Hotels
Most celebs stick to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills during Oscar weekend. The Oscars are at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood (6801 Hollywood Blvd; kodaktheatre.com), and stars like to be close to their home (or hotel), the gifting suites, their stylists, and all the parties. The Four Seasons LA (300 South Doheny Drive; +1 310 273 2222, fourseasons.com/losangeles) is where it's at: one big party all weekend. Celebrities presenting at the Oscars, attending the Oscars, or just going to the parties reserve luxury hotel rooms to get ready in. Just sit outside by the lobby, because every star who comes in and out of the hotel will have to wait by the valet. I counted 10 movie and TV actors waiting for their cars last year on the Saturday night before Oscar Sunday.

The Chateau Marmont hotel (8221 Sunset Blvd; +1 323 656 1010, chateaumarmont.com) is the place for Hollywood's troublemakers and A-listers. Stop in for a bite to eat on the patio (a favourite of Jake Gyllenhaal and Lindsay Lohan), or grab a drink at the nearby Bar Marmont (8171 West Sunset Blvd; +1 323 650 0575, chateaumarmont.com/barmarmont.php). And to spot celebs from Hollywood's Golden Age, visit the Beverly Hills Hotels and Bungalows (9641 Sunset Blvd; +1 310 276 2251, beverlyhillshotel.com). You're almost sure of a star sighting at the Polo Lounge.

Restaurants
Those attending the Oscars will be eating the bare minimum, so don't expect to see stars eating lots of water-retaining foods like sushi and Japanese. Salads it is, so for lunch try Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop (9671 Wilshire Blvd; +1 310 246 0756, greenleafchopshop.com). Jessica Alba was recently in.

Scarpetta (225 North Canon Drive; +1 310 860 7970, tinyurl.com/2ejzvar), the brand new Italian restaurant at the Montage Beverly Hills, has been bringing in the likes of Lionel Richie, Britney Spears and more since opening earlier this year.

Il Sole (8741 W Sunset Blvd; +1 310 657 1182) is the quintessential Italian restaurant and frequently visited by Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Ellen DeGeneres and more.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes frequent Wolfgang Puck's CUT (9500 Wilshire Blvd; +1 310 276 8500, wolfgangpuck.com) at the Regent Beverly Wilshire (the setting for Pretty Woman) for succulent steaks, while the likes of Will and Jada Smith and Hugh Hefner prefer the more clubby vibe of Boa Steakhouse (9200 Sunset Blvd; +1 310 278 2050, boasteak.com/balboa).

For intimate dining, don't pass up celeb favourite Il Piccolino (350 N Robertson Ave; +1 310 659 2220, ilpiccolinorestaurant.com); Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough go there. Or try Madeo (8897 Beverly Blvd; +1 310 859 0242) (Jennifer Aniston, Woody Allen) for romantic Italian dining.

Comme a (8479 Melrose Ave; +1 323 782 1104, commecarestaurant.com) on Melrose is bringing 'em in for amazing French fare. Relative newcomers Salt's Cure (soups, salads, steak, charcuterie, 7494 Santa Monica Blvd; +1 323 850 7258, saltscure.com), Red-O (celebrity chef Rick Bayless's Mexican place, 8155 Melrose Ave; +1 323 655 5009, redorestaurant.com) and Hatfield's (6703 Melrose Ave; +1 323 935 2977, hatfieldsrestaurant.com), for fish and seafood, are big draws.

Shopping
You'll always see someone in the ultra-trendy Fred Segal (8100 Melrose Ave; fredsegal.com). Stroll tree-lined Melrose Place, where every famous hairstylist (Serge Normant, Frdric Fekkai, etc) and designer (Chlo, Marc Jacobs) has a shop. It's crazy during Oscar week, as actors stop by for last-minute fittings and touch-ups.

Rodeo may be Beverly Hills's "it" street for the rich and famous, but celebrities usually steer clear during Oscar weekend. They know tourists are out and about, and will send an assistant or stylist for any last-minute purchases. If they do stop by (at Chanel or Prada, say), it's almost always through the back entryway.

It really depends on what sort of celebrity you're looking for. You might spot a Kim Kardashian in front of department store Kitson (115 S Robertson Boulevard; +1 800 814 8447, shopkitson.com/store-locations), but you probably won't catch a glimpse of any Oscar winners. And while you may see someone famous while eating at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel (+1 310 887 2777, beverlyhillshotel.com/the-polo-lounge), it will more than likely be someone whose career peaked in the late 1970s.

Last month, I spotted three famous faces in the span of 15 minutes while having dinner at The Bazaar (details as before), Jos Andrs's insanely delicious ? and insanely expensive ? restaurant at the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills. It's a pretty reliable place for celeb-spotting just now. But that will change in six months. It always does.

You could stand behind the barricades on the south side of Hollywood Boulevard when a big movie is premiering at Grauman's Chinese Theatre (mantheatres.com/chinese). The biggest stars often cross the street to sign autographs ? think Leonardo DiCaprio at the Inception premiere.

But if you'd rather see Leo (and his supermodel gal pal of the moment) actually living his life, head for Will Rogers State Beach (parks.ca.gov). At the northern end of Santa Monica, on Pacific Coast Highway, are the volleyball courts where Leo and his pals play.

Nearby, Patrick's Roadhouse, a bright-green breakfast joint (106 Entrada Drive; +1 310 459 4544, patricksroadhouse.info), is a magnet for Malibu superstars and Westside honchos. Arnie is a longtime regular, along with Sean Penn, Cindy Crawford, Tom Cruise and a gaggle of other stars that love the beach more than the hills.

Speaking of Tom Cruise, you're bound to spot him sooner or later at Santa Monica airport, located between Centinela Avenue and 23rd Street. He and Katie Holmes and little Suri keep their planes there, as do Brad and Angelina, Harrison Ford, John Travolta and every other Hollywood celeb that prefers to fly on their own. Anyone can have a meal at nearby Typhoon (3221 Donald Douglas Loop South; +1 310 390 6565, typhoon.biz), where the person at the next table is often the star's pilot. Plus, there's a great view of the runways, and a terrific Pan-Asian menu (including fried bugs!) to boot.

Visit some of LA's less touristy neighbourhoods, such as Los Feliz, in the east of the city. Katy Perry and Russell Brand live nearby and like Little Dom's restaurant (2128 Hillhurst Ave; +1 323 661 0055, littledoms.com). Michael Cera also lives around here and likes to snack at the Mustard Seed Cafe (great healthy sandwiches, 1948 Hillhurst Ave; +1 323 660 0670, mslosfeliz.com). You can also visit the Dresden (1760 N Vermont Ave; +1 323 665 4294, thedresden.com), the restaurant that featured in Swingers.

Check out local film festivals, such as the autumn AFI Fest (afi.com/afifest), and the Los Angeles Film Festival (16-26 June, lafilmfest.com). They're a great way to see good films, and the actors and film-makers who make them often attend screenings or panel discussions.

Lisa Marks

A screenwriter, director and journalist based in LA

The easiest ? and cheapest ? way to spot a celebrity in LA is to hang out in the right coffee shops. In the four years that I've been living here, I've seen Jennifer Aniston, Jon Hamm, Joshua Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Cera, Minnie Driver, Heather Graham, Rene Russo and Diane Kruger in local diners or Starbucks. And all it took was a $3 latte. Try any of the coffee shops on Robertson in Beverly Hills, or any of the Starbucks in Studio City ? lots of famous people, including directors such as Quentin Tarantino, have been known to drop by on their way to meetings. I once saw Ewan McGregor in Le Pain Quotidien on Melrose (8607 Melrose Ave; +1 310 854 3700).

Oliver Trevener

Presenter at celebrity gossip website younghollywood.com

Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton have been know to drop by Urth Caff (8565 Melrose Ave; +1 310 659 0628, urthcaffe.com), and it's cheap to grab a coffee. The Malibu Country Mart shopping centre (3835 Cross Creek Rd; malibucountrymart.com) is a good bet for celebrity spotting, but for someone more old school head to Mastro's Steakhouse (246 N Canon Drive; mastrosrestaurants.com) in Beverly Hills ? Robert de Niro likes to eat there.

Louise Barnsley

LA-based photographer

Third Street has a variety of cute boutiques, where I've spotted Katie Holmes, Sharon Stone, Amanda Seyfried and Ryan Phillipe. Kinara Spa (656 N Robertson Blvd; +1 310 657 9188, kinaraspa.com) is a few blocks north of the shopping and has a famous red-carpet facial. I've seen Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry and Drew Barrymore there.

If you're a music buff, stay at the Sunset Marquis (1200 Alta Loma Rd; +1 310 657 1333, sunsetmarquis.com). You'll trip over musicians recording their latest material, and the walls are covered with pictures of Marquis regulars such as Morrissey. Cheryl Cole stayed here on her last trip to LA.

Anna Singleton

GMTV's TV host in LA

You should snap up tickets to an LA Lakers game (nba.com/lakers), as you're bound to see someone in the front row. Basketball fans include Justin Bieber, Charlize Theron, Jay-Z, David Beckham and Ben Stiller. The Hideout nightclub in Santa Monica (112 W Channel Rd; +1 310 429 1851, santamonicahideout.com) is where the celebs go to hide from the paparazzi, and you could try booking a Sunday brunch at Geoffrey's in Malibu (27400 Pacific Coast Highway; +1 310 457 1519, geoffreysmalibu.com). Halle Berry goes there regularly.

Florence And The Machine Drew On 'Emotional' '127 Hours' At Oscars

'When the song comes, it's a very emotional moment,' Florence Welch says of 'If I Rise' before live performance.
By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Florence Welch wasn't a nominee at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (February 27), but the breakout music star approached the evening as if she were up for a trophy.

Welch, who stepped in to help sing Dido's portion of Best Original Song nominee "If I Rise" (from "127 Hours"), talked to MTV News on the Oscar red carpet about her responsibility to do the song from the Best Picture nominee justice.

"When the song comes, it's a very emotional moment," said the Florence and the Machine frontwoman, who was making her Academy Awards debut. "It's the moment when James Franco's ... character realizes what he has to do."

Best Picture nominee "127 Hours" chronicles real-life hiker Aron Ralston's harrowing story of survival, including his decision to amputate his own arm when faced with possible death on a hiking trip. Clearly a fan of the film, Welch recalled her experience of watching the film.

"You know what's going to happen, but you're with him from the very beginning," the red-haired songstress said of Franco's portrayal, which also earned the Oscar host a nod for Best Actor.

In spite of the not-easy-to-watch moments in director Danny Boyle's film, Welch described the scene in which "If I Rise" begins to play "actually, a very calm moment."

Drawing inspiration from the movie and that particular moment scene, Welch told us she prepared to perform live alongside Oscar winner A.R. Rahman — he penned the song with Dido and Rollo Armstrong — by telling herself to "try and be calm."

As for Florence and the Machine fans, the singer told us they can expect new music very soon. "Right now, I'm just working on my second album," she said. But while many are still hoping Florence and the Machine will wind up on the upcoming "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack (they appeared on the "Eclipse" soundtrack), Welch confirmed that she hasn't been called to contribute to the project yet.

Stick with MTV News on Oscar night and beyond for red-carpet fashion coverage, analysis of the winners, plus interviews, photos and more from your favorite Hollywood stars!

Charlie Sheen show cancelled after rant against producer

Two and a Half Men season cut after Charlie Sheen calls creator a 'stupid little man'

Television network CBS has cancelled production of its comedy Two and a Half Men for the rest of the season after the star, Charlie Sheen, unleashed an expletive-filled attack on the show's producer.

The decision came days before Sheen, the highest-paid actor on US television, was due to return to the set after his third stint in rehab in 12 months.

In an interview on a syndicated radio programme and in remarks to the celebrity website TMZ.com on Thursday Sheen called the producer and co-creator of Two and a Half Men, Chuck Lorre, a "charlatan [who] chose not to do his job", a "piece of shit" and a "stupid, stupid little man".

Sheen also belittled Alcoholics Anonymous and claimed he had cured himself "with my mind" after four weeks of drug and alcohol treatment.

"Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros Television have decided to discontinue production of Two and a Half Men for the remainder of the season," the network and the show's makers said.

Sheen fired back an open letter, given to TMZ.com, that again referred to Lorre in a derogatory fashion.

"I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show for almost a decade to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong," Sheen said.

Production of Two and a Half Men was suspended in January when Sheen, 45, was persuaded to seek help after a 36-hour party at his home that ended with him being hospitalised. Four of the final eight episodes for the current TV season, ending in May, were axed because of the delay.

Two and a Half Men is a huge money spinner for the broadcaster and production company, and earlier this year the network said it was "highly concerned" about Sheen.

The actor was involved in a series of drug and alcohol-related incidents throughout much of 2010 and in August pleaded guilty to an assault on his now former wife. But he signed up for two more seasons in May 2010, and got a pay raise that brought his salary to a reported $27.5m a year for a role as hard-drinking womanising bachelor Charlie Harper that in many ways mirrored his life.

Sheen appeared to be tempting fate when he told the syndicated Alex Jones Show on on Thursday that "I was told if I went on the attack, they would cancel the show".

He also made a dig at his producer's Jewish background, calling him "Chaim Levine". Lorre was born Charles Michael Levine. He could not be reached for comment.

In remarks later to TMZ.com, Sheen was quoted as saying of Lorre: "I violently hate Chaim Levine. He's a stupid, stupid little man ? that I'd never want to be like."

Two and a Half Men attracts about 15 million US viewers a week.

Lea Michele & Dianna Agron: Oscar Party Pretty

Having a blast after the 83rd annual Academy Awards, Dianna Agron was spotted at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night (February 27).

The ?Glee? girl looked lovely as she chatted away with her costar/gal pal Lea Michele (who was joined by Jonathan Groff) at the Graydon Carter-hosted shindig held at the Sunset Tower.

Earlier in the evening, Dianna treated herself to some star-studded action at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Florence Welch, Mandy Moore Sing Oscars Score

Randy Newman nabs Best Original Song for 'We Belong Together' from 'Toy Story 3.'

Sunday night (February 27) marked the 83rd annual Academy Awards, but there were some moments when the ceremony was more reminiscent of a Grammy stage.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who has gone from Oscar-winning actress to singing awards-show mainstay — having performed "Forget You" alongside Cee Lo Green and puppets at the Grammys — was one of the featured performers in the Best Original Song category.

Paltrow, who joked to MTV News on the red carpet that she'd calmed her pre-Oscar nerves with a beer, called the ceremony "so, like, freaking serious" as compared to her previous stints on both the Grammys and the Country Music Awards.

After being introduced by Jennifer Hudson, a calmer Paltrow (who Hudson described as "a singing sensation and country music's new star") donning a sleek, off-the-shoulder nude and bejeweled gown, sang some of "Coming Home" for the Kodak Theater and millions of Oscar viewers around the globe.

With a starry stage set-up behind her, Paltrow crooned the chorus, "After all of my running/ I'm finally coming home/ The world tried to break me/ I found a road to take me home."

But Paltrow wasn't the only familiar face to appear as a performer during the ceremony. Fellow singer/actress Mandy Moore, wearing a flowing blue gown, sang the nominated "I See the Light" from her hit animated film "Tangled" alongside her co-star Zachary Levi, with Alan Menken accompanying them on piano.

Later in the telecast, Florence Welch, frontwoman for 2010 breakout act Florence and the Machine, helped Oscar winner A.R. Rahman perform "If I Rise" from "127 Hours" while images from the Best Picture nominee appeared in the background.

Welch, who wore a striking burnt-sienna gown, showcased her beautiful, moody voice as she stepped in for Dido (who co-wrote the song, as well as sang on the film's original track).

However, those were the only moments those songs and their performers had any Oscar glory on Sunday, as perennial nominee Randy Newman walked away the winner in the Best Original Song category.

Newman, who had performed "We Belong Together" from "Toy Story 3" at the piano on the Oscar stage, won his second career Academy Award, besting the songs from "Country Strong," "Tangled" and "127 Hours."

Russell Brand Comments On Katy Perry's Product-Placement Tweets

Brand discounts media allegations that his wife's recent negative Twitter comments were aimed at Britney Spears.

Katy Perry wanted the world to know that her recent Twitter comments about the use of product placement in music videos were taken completely out of context when it was implied that the star was talking about an alternate version of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" clip that features some prominently displayed products.

Perry's hubby, Russell Brand, had a lot to say about the supposed dis, knocking down rumors that Perry's remarks were implying anything about her fellow pop diva.

"I think those things are made up in the papers and the media to distract people from our spirituality and the truth, and it distracts us from the way the economic situation of the world keeps certain people trapped on this plateau," Brand told MTV News on the Oscars red carpet, with his mother by his side. "Let's all rise up and join together. Unite!"

The controversy was initially sparked earlier this month after Perry — responding to a question about product placement from her California Dreams tourmate Marina and the Diamonds — tweeted, "Do it with style and grace ... Not so in [your] face like some. [You] have to get creative with it. Some artists don't care [though, and you] can tell."

Days after that post, Perry took to Twitter again to try and clarify the meaning of her tweet and take a jab at the media for attempting to pit her against Spears.

"Dear tabloid media a.k.a. FILTH: please note I expressed an overall feeling about product placement, [its] role in videos and the art of them being compliment[ary] or sticking out," Perry wrote. "Most, if not ALL, popsters welcome deals with products [to] offset costs of big-budget vids in these recessional music industry times. I'VE used them in MY vids before and am happy [to be] able [to] make a better vid because of [them].

"Once AGAIN, stop pitting artist against artist for [your] sensational satisfaction," she continued, "and stick to what [you're] best [at]: lying, gossiping, exaggerating and overall lending a hand [to] the deterioration of a generation."

Do you think Katy was taking a jab at Britney's video? Share your opinion in the comments.

As the Dark Knight, Christian Bale has faced the Scarecrow's fear gas, the Joker's anarchy and Two-Face's betrayal. Who would have thought it would be a foot-tall opponent named Oscar who finally made him cry?

A triumphant Bale fought back tears after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Dicky Eklund in "The Fighter" at the Oscars on Sunday night (February 27). It was the 37-year-old's first nomination and first Academy Award.

"I didn't think I was like this," Bale said, a lump in his throat. "[Thanks to] my wonderful wife and our little girl, who's taught me so much more than I'll ever be able to teach her."

For Bale, it was an uncommonly sentimental ending to a speech that began with good humor and a few laughs.

"What a room full of talented and inspirational people," Bale said when he first took the stage. "What am I doing here?"

Check out backstage photos of the big Oscar winners.

The Hollywood veteran and star of the upcoming "The Dark Knight Rises" even managed to good-naturedly refer to his infamous rant on the set of "Terminator: Salvation," where he was caught on tape yelling profanity-laden tirades at a member of the crew.

"I'm not gonna drop the F-bomb like [co-star and Best Supporting Actress winner] Melissa Leo did," Bale joked. "I've done that plenty!"

While thanking director David O. Russell and co-stars Leo, Amy Adams and Mark Wahlberg, it was for Eklund that Bale saved his most fervent praise and gratitude, even managing to insert a plug for the Pride of Lowell's website.

"Where's my quacker?" Bale asked, scanning the crowd for Dicky, who stood to feverous applause from the crowd. "Hey, mate, you're the best! He's had a wonderful story, and I can't wait to see the next chapter. If you want to be a champ, go train with him! Check him out, he deserves it!"

What's going on inside The Box?

The cabaret show at this notorious London club is known as the wildest in town

It has only been open for a fortnight, but The Box cabaret club in London's Soho has established a reputation for being the most raucous show in town. "Do all the drugs you want. Do all the cocaine you can. Answer every fetish," is how, according to a London paper, master of ceremonies Raven O welcomes revellers shortly before the 1am showtime.

For the great and the bad, it's the new place to be seen: Kate Moss, Emma Watson and Prince Harry are among those who have seen the club's explicit two-hour show. A club-goer describes acts involving acrobatics, threesomes, and men dressed as pigs licking food off strippers' stomachs, while a paper has reported a performer, known as "Laqueefa", apparently playing well-known tunes with her genitalia.

If that all sounds completely debauched, it's apparently not as extreme as The Box's sister-club in Manhattan. "London is a little more tame than New York ? but not by much," says someone connected to the club.

Susan Sarandon might agree. Last February, transsexual performer Rose Wood covered the Oscar-winning actor with vomit ? an event presumably all too familiar for singer-songwriter Moby, who was an investor in the club before things got a bit too much. "I like degeneracy," he says, "but for The Box you really need to be in the right frame of mind. The things that go on there don't make sense to me."

Onstage sexual explicitness also descended into alleged backstage sexual harassment. In 2008, two performers known collectively as Twincest brought legal action against the owner of both clubs, Simon Hammerstein, accusing him of pressuring them into a threesome with him. The case never made it to trial, as the trio settled out of court ? and Hammerstein vigorously denies everything. "I would never threaten anyone's job or force anyone to do anything they don't want to do," he says.
